Tristan Ong - Kim San Leng (Ang Mo Kio) - 17 Aug 2025

What does one ask for in life? You can never see through things in confusion...

Tristan Ong - Kim San Leng (Ang Mo Kio) - 17 Aug 2025
Tristan Ong busking at Kim San Leng (Ang Mo Kio) on 17 August 2025.

A new busking location was added in the Kim San Leng Ang Mo Kio branch, adding to two existing busking locations in two other kopitiams (in Jurong Gateway and Bukit Panjang), under the coffeeshop chain's "Busk, Bite, Belong" initiative that incorporates live music performances with heartland food culture. It was the second busking location in Ang Mo Kio (the other being AMK Hub), and is right in the heart of Kebun Baru, just a short walk away from Mayflower MRT station and within proximity to Kebun Baru Market & Food Centre. This new location lasted for about a year before being removed in August 2026, along with the other two Kim San Leng busking locations - it would have been nice if I looked at what the Bukit Panjang outlet had to offer.

一生何求 [originally performed by Danny Chan (陳百強)]

This is the theme song for the 1989 Hong Kong TVB drama Looking Back in Anger (義不容情), which was a popular drama at that time. Behind this seemingly nostalgic melody belies a melancholic theme that focuses on regret, loss, and the emptiness of chasing material success, mirroring the the tragic, turbulent fate of the show's characters.

滚滚红尘 [originally performed by Sarah Chen (陈淑桦)]

This is the theme song for the 1990 film Red Dust (滚滚红尘), a co-production between Hong Kong and Taiwan. Telling the story of an independent-minded female writer (played by Brigitte Lin) during the Japanese occupation who falls in love with a cultural official working for the Japanese (played by Chin Han), the film won multiple accolades in the 27th Golden Horse Awards, including Best Picture. The song itself is composed and written by famed singer-songwriter Lo Ta-yu.
