J's Journey concert - 27 Sep 2025
Jeff Ng held his fourth ticketed live concert at the Gateway Theatre in 2025.
Jeff Ng held a live concert at the Gateway Theatre on 27 September 2025. This was Jeff's fourth ticketed concert, having previously held concerts between 2022 to 2024.
At this point in time I had known Jeff Ng for almost a year. The first time I met him was when he performed a Sentosa gig in October 2024 (even though that was a short while), and that was two years following his shooting to fame busking at The Cathay, his subsequent fall from grace and his roadmap to recovery. Since the Sentosa gig, I feel quite intrigued about this famous busker and wanted to find out more about his original songs and his performances.
So over the next few months, I went to some of his busking and gig performances, and immersed myself with some of his musical styles, and his song medleys. And when his 2025 concert was announced, I took the opportunity to buy a ticket. It is something that I can check off my bucket list, and the concert's theme has kind of fascinated me.
This concert, titled J's Journey, looks back on Jeff's musical journey over the years, where he not only performs his own originals (including his then-latest release, 你说过), he also shares his musical influences (including covers from Jay Chou and JJ Lin), his challenging period and his gradual comeback into the public scene. Through pre-recorded footage, we also get to explore the making of some of Jeff's singles in Taiwan.
Oh, and did I mention that Jeff had also released an English single? It is called "This Is Where I Belong". It is not exactly an NDP song, but it is more of a soulful patriotic song for Singapore's 60th year of independence. It is a song that serves as a heartfelt homage to home, roots and shared experiences that shaped Singaporeans.
Jeron Teo is the special guest for the concert
The concert also had a special performance by Jeron Teo (张耀文) (@jerontyw), a singer-songwriter who not only designs jewellery and custom microphones (!), but has also recently held a small recital where he performed his original songs. He and Jeff performed a duet of one of his original songs which I forgot, but I believed it to be 满足了吗, and another original where he performed solo, titled 自己 (which was released in major music outlets a month later). The latter song is a reflective ballad that dives deep into his quiet struggles and his pursuit of dreams. And the concert came to a heartwarming and unforgettable end with the surprise appearance of Jeff's family (his wife Zona and his newborn Jayzen - that was Jayzen's first public appearance). I left the concert feeling very satisfied, and I can't wait to see where his musical journey might take him next.
