Jeff Ng - Marina Bay Lower Boardwalk (Here is SG Sculpture) - 21 Jun 2025
First busking session under the fireworks.
This is not only Jeff's third and last week busking during the iLight festival in 2025, but also his first busking session coinciding with the National Day Parade (NDP) preview season. And the crowds can only get even bigger in the lead up to the NDP, as that's when a lot of photographers and fireworks and NDP enthusiasts show up at the Marina Bay area to catch photos of the dazzling fireworks. I have also managed to take some photos of the fireworks during Jeff's busking performance.
Jeff has released a new single the previous week, 还是爱错, and it turned out to be his biggest hit, accumulating hundreds of thousands of streams. This song is probably the song that cemented his transition from a viral busker to an established recording musician. Some of his recent songs have been recorded by the label MRM Music Room (乐子中心), which is based in Taiwan and composed and arranged by hitmakers like Chang Wei Hung (张暐弘) and Owen Chen (陈欧文o1). This song explores themes of unrequited efforts and mutual maturity as it highlights the painful process of a fading relationship and ultimate acceptance and letting go.
The two songs picked from this busking session are both timeless classics:
- 痴心绝对 [originally performed by Sam Lee (李圣杰)]
- This song is from Sam Lee's second album of the same name, released in 2002. This song became popular in the Greater China region for several years, and Lee had performed it live 10,000 times.
- 小薇 [originally performed by Huang Pin-yuan (黄品源)]
- Also released in 2002, it is one of singer Huang Pin-yuan's representative songs. The songwriter/composer of this song was inspired to write it after developing feelings for a girl while in Malaysia, and after listening to the song recorded by the songwriter/composer, the girl agreed to have a preliminary relationship with him.
