Okayyy, Season 2 features the first group of buskers to have participated in Battle of the Buskers!

Meet T Junction (红绿灯) (@tjunctionmusic), a female duet comprising of keyboardist Alina (麦菽娟) and vocalist/beatboxer Jia Rui (林佳蕊). They first met in a mandopop group, Voices, back in university, and remained inseparable over the past 10 years, busking at different crossroads and junctions around the island. They gained recognition after a recommendation from someone to compete in Mediacorp's Battle of the Buskers (游走的歌王), in which Papaya Duck and Evan also competed in. They emerged as one of the Top 3 finalists (Evan is also in the Top 3, The ETC won).

And that was the beginning of a new chapter. The duo have released four original songs so far, including a heartbreak ballad 一颗星的寂寞 written by local music composer Derrick Tham, and 游走的心, a collaboration with the BotB Top 5. Outside busking and performing in gigs, Alina is a media professional who is also a songwriter - she wrote a couple of songs for Jocie Guo - and Jia Rui works as a nurse.

I'm on a lookout for signature songs, and so I'm picking three songs from this busking session:

  • All three are very recent songs that have just been released, dealing with the ups and downs of love and relationships. In particular, 跳楼机 has the same name as a drop tower (Jumping Machine, to be exact), and it is used as a metaphor to describe the emotional fluctuations of love.
