Jeff Ng - The Cathay - 12 Apr 2025

No busker enthusiast experience would be complete if you haven't been to one of Jeff Ng (黄长俊) (@jeffhellomusic)'s busking performances. Not counting the soft re-opening live performance that was held inside the mall, it has been a while since Jeff last busked outside The Cathay, also known as the Handy Road Open Space. This session is especially significant, since it is Jeff's first busking session since the mall re-opened.

Even the drizzle didn't dampen the mood at The Cathay, where Jeff performed for around 90 minutes, taking song requests from the audience, ranging from crowd favourites to the latest hits. And what better way to begin the set with the JJ Lin (林俊杰) song 她说 (translation: She Said)? This song is about a man singing from the perspective of a woman who is masking the agony of a heartbreak and the fear of what a breakup would bring despite expressing indifference. With lyrics written by fellow local singer Stefanie Sun (孙燕姿), this song is cleverly written from a third-person perspective with lyrics mostly written in third-person pronouns. 她说 is also the first JJ Lin song to be covered in Season 2 of the Busking Chase.
