Jeff Ng - Easter Weekend Live Performance @ The Cathay - 20 Apr 2025
Springing into the Easter Weekend.
Jeff is back to perform in The Cathay's main atrium during the Easter Weekend, and I went to watch him perform on the second day of the weekend (the first day was on 19th Apr).
And I arrived rather early for his performance, so I decided to check out The Cathay Gallery in the meantime. It is located in level 2 of the mall and features the history of the Cathay Organization, contributions by their founders Mrs Loke Yew and Dato Loke Wan Tho, as well as snippets from its classic films from the 30s all the way to the 90s. So, if you are free on Friday to Sunday afternoons (from 12.00p.m. to 7.00p.m.), be sure to check out this gem that is located next to the lifts 'cos admission is free. Retail-wise, The Cathay also saw some new openings, such as IUIGA (a local lifestyle brand selling premium-quality home essentials), WingStop (a fast-food restaurant selling chicken, primarily buffalo wings), as well as a new food court offering a wide variety of food options, Food Avenue (by Yak Hong).

Speaking of Jeff, he has been invited to a lot of gigs recently (including this one) over the past few days, so by this performance his voice has become slightly hoarse, but fortunately the enthusiasm didn't diminish, as for the next 90 minutes Jeff performed song requests from the audience. And I should also mention that the indoors are unaffected by the weather, as it was raining heavily outside, so the performance carried on smoothly.

It would be a couple of months before Jeff would do busking, as he has been invited to gigs over the next few weeks - his next busking occurs in June (coinciding with the i Light Singapore and NDP rehearsals, do look out for my later posts).

The two songs picked from this performance are:
- 爱笑的眼睛 [originally performed by Vivian Hsu (徐若瑄)]
- This song's lyrics is written by JJ Lin, who also released his own cover of the song along with most other songs in his album She Said (她说). The original version, which is rather emo, is performed by Vivian Hsu, though JJ's cover (in my opinion) is more popular.
- 东风破 [originally performed by Jay Chou (周杰伦)]
- This zhongguo feng song uses two Chinese folk instruments (the erhu and the pipa). The name of the song comes from an ancient folk song form called qu po (曲破).
