Evan Goh - Music Tapas @ SCO - 22 Mar 2025
Who's ready for some Music Tapas?

Today I'm featuring a Music Tapas event at the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO). Each month there will be a Music Tapas before an SCO concert for concert-goers to listen to free pre-concert performances featuring local music artistes. Evan Goh (吴宇凡) (@evantellstories) is the performer for the month, performing before the Musical Voyage II concert conducted by SNYCO Conductor Lien Boon Hua.

So I'm actually here, at the Singapore Conference Hall. Gazetted as a national monument in 2010, it used to be the headquarters of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), and it also had an auditorium to cater for international conferences. When the NTUC relocated to bigger premises, the government leased this building to the SCO as its permanent venue for its rehearsals and performances.
Since I was here quite early, I went to explore the various models of Chinese instruments on display around the building:

Soon it is Evan's pre-concert performance. In this short 45-minute performance, he performs songs featuring at least one Singaporean in either the lyrics, composition or arrangement, also known as S-POP. e.g. 关怀方式, 记得, 遗憾. Also worth noting - the song "Your Name Engraved Herein" (刻在我心底的名字) sung by Taiwanese singer Crowd Lu - a Singaporean songwriter, Tan Boon Wah, co-wrote the song.

The song picked from this performance is:
- 双栖动物 [originally performed by Tanya Chua (蔡健雅)]
- This is the hit single by local singer Tanya Chua, with lyrics by Xiao Han (小寒) and composed by Eric Ng (黄韵仁).
