The Busking Chase makes a return to the location with the most chases in Season 1.
The Busking Chase returns to One Holland Village, my favorite haunt for busking performances.
In case you've joined, the pet-friendly mall is one of the locations buskers can perform, with the Village Central (where the decorations are) being the designated busking location. So... the mall has a lot of pet-friendly facilities, like outdoor spaces and parking spaces etc. and shoppers can bring their pets to dine in or shop for necessities for their furry ones. It's a short walk away from Holland Village MRT, and it also happens to be the nearest busking location from where I live (other than Fusionopolis@one-north). Which explains the number of Instagram reels filmed at the location (45 reels) in Season 1.
So, I'm back in the mall after a full three-month absence (other than Jeff's gig the previous month). The previous time I bumped into a busker in the mall was in December last year.
Oh yes, I want you to meet Andy Soh (@iamsohandy), who is a strum-and-string musician who not only busks and sings at performances, but, as I have later found out, is also an event host/emcee for corporate events. He usually sings English songs, but also occasionally sings in Mandarin. He is also the first busker ever outside of the Busk King/Battle of the Buskers to be covered back in Season 1.
The three songs I have picked from the busking session are:
- The Young Ones (originally performed by Cliff Richard & The Shadows)
- This is the oldest song covered in Season 1 of the Busking Chase (other than the Lunar New Year classics). It is the title song to the 1961 film of the same name, as well as a number-one single from the 60s. There are songs which I refuse to procrastinate for later or pick earlier in the Busking Chase - The Young Ones is one of the songs I am picking during the warm-up phase of season 2 of the Busking Chase.
- Every Breath You Take (originally performed by The Police)
- This is the signature song from the eponymous band, as well as its lead singer Sting.
- Kiss Me (originally performed by Sixpence None The Richer)
- Another signature song, this time by Sixpence None The Richer. I recall vividly that this song was once used for a lozenges commercial. And it is one of the memorable love songs.
